Secretory carcinoma of the breast is an uncommon form of invasive breast cancer that has an appearance similar to breast with lactational changes.
It is also known as secretory breast carcinoma (abbreviated SBC) and breast secretory carcinoma.
General
- Favourable prognosis.[1]
- Children and adults.
Microscopic
Features:[2]
- Abundant cytoplasm with fine vacuolation - clear/pale or amphophilic.
- Mitoses - uncommon.
- Nucleoli - rare.
- Architecture: solid, papillary, cribriform or microcystic.
DDx:
- Lactational change[3] - glandular architecture.

- Secretory breast carcinoma (nature.com).
IHC
Triple negative (ER -ve, PR -ve, HER2 -ve).[1]
Others:
- Alpha-lactalbumin +ve.
- S-100 protein +ve.
- Polyclonal CEA +ve.
Molecular pathology
Characteristic translocation:[1]
- t(12;15).
- ETV6-NTRK3.
Note:
- This translocation is also seen in mammary analogue secretory carcinoma,[4] congenital-infantile fibrosarcoma and mesoblastic nephroma.
