Endometrium with psammoma bodies

Endometrium with psammoma bodies is an uncommon finding.

General

• Psammoma bodies be seen in benign or malignant conditions; the important malignancy that should not be missed is serous carcinoma of the endometrium.

Benign findings reported with psammoma bodies on endometrial biopsy:

• Endometrial polyp.
• Endometriosis.
• Endosalpingiosis.

- PROLIFERATIVE ENDOMETRIUM WITH SMALL ROUND GLANDS AND SHEDDING, SEE COMMENT 1.
- ONE PSAMMOMATOUS CALCIFICATION, SEE COMMENT 2.
- BENIGN ENDOCERVICAL MUCOSA.
- NEGATIVE FOR HYPERPLASIA.
- NEGATIVE FOR MALIGNANCY.

COMMENT 1:
The changes are suggestive of anovulatory bleeding.

COMMENT 2:
This is a nonspecific finding; psammoma bodies may be seen in a benign context.
