The sections show mucosa with a ciliated epithelium and bland subepithelial glands. Abundant inflammatory cells, predominantly plasma cells and lymphocytes, are present. There is a lesser amount of neutrophils. Eosinophils are not significant component of the inflammation. There is no significant nuclear atypia. Mitotic activity is not readily apparent.
