Introduction

The knee is typically replaced due to osteoarthritis (OA). OA in younger individuals is typically secondary, e.g. due to an injury.

Protocol

The specimen is received in formalin and label ______. It consists of multiple fragments of soft and bony tissue, measuring __ x ___ x ___ cm in aggregate. The resection margins appear smooth. The articular surface of bone shows [moderate/extensive] degeneration of cartilage, (as well as peripheral osteophyte formation) and subchondral cyst formation.
