The mediastinum is a place where tumours occasionally grow. It is also a place one can find various cysts.

Differenital diagnosis

Anterior

  • Thymoma.
  • Teratoma and other germ cell tumours.
  • Thyroid gland.
  • Terrible lymphomas.

Middle

Posterior

  • Gastroenteric cyst.
  • GIST.
  • Neurogenic tumours.

Specific diagnoses

Fibrosing mediastinitis

General

  • Cough.

Etiology:

  • Various - infectious, idiopathic.[3]

Microscopic

Features:

  • Fibrous tissue.
  • +/-Microorganisms.
