Ovarian torsion

Ovarian torsion is a clinical diagnosis and gynecologic emergency.

General

Typical clinical features - uncomplicated:[1]

  • Abdominal pain.
  • +/-Fever.

Gross

  • Black/blue ovary.[1]

Microscopic

Features:

  • Necrosis of ovarian parenchyma.
  • Lack of significant nuclear atypia.

Note:

  • Microscopy is nonspecific.
