Ovarian torsion is a clinical diagnosis and gynecologic emergency.
General
Typical clinical features - uncomplicated:[1]
- Abdominal pain.
- +/-Fever.
Gross
- Black/blue ovary.[1]
Microscopic
Features:
- Necrosis of ovarian parenchyma.
- Lack of significant nuclear atypia.
Note:
- Microscopy is nonspecific.
DDx:
- Ovarian tumour - as underlying cause for torsion.
- Vasculitis.
- Thromboembolism.
