The labial salivary gland is biopsied to assess an individual for Sjögren disease. Salivary gland pathology

Differential diagnosis

Main possibilities:^[1]

Chronic sialadenitis.
Focal lymphocytic sialadenitis.
Indeterminate.
Insufficient for diagnosis.
Minor salivary gland within normal limits.

Other possibilities:

Salivary gland tumours - see salivary gland.
Lymphoma - usually MALT lymphoma.
