Vimentin is a common immunostain. It marks most soft tissue lesions and malignant melanoma. It is usually negative in carcinomas.
Positive
Vimentin and cytokeratin positivity
Common tumours:
- Renal cell carcinoma.[4]
- Endometrial carcinoma.[5]
- Ovarian serous carcinoma.[4]
- Papillary thyroid carcinoma.[4]
- Sarcomatoid carcinoma (spindle cell carcinoma).[4]
Rare tumours:
- Synovial sarcoma.[6]
- Rhabdoid tumour.[7]
- Epithelioid sarcoma.[8]
- Epithelioid angiosarcoma.[4]
- Desmoplastic small round cell tumour.[4]
- Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma.[4]
- Biphasic malignant mesothelioma.[4]
- Carcinosarcoma.[4]
Common tumours that uncommonly have the pattern:
Negative
- Most carcinomas.
