Sclerosing mucoepidermoid carcinoma with eosinophilia is an extremely rare tumour of the thyroid gland.
General
Associated with:
- Chronic thyroiditis, e.g. Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
- Papillary thyroid carcinoma.
Microscopic
Features:
- Mucous cells
- Squamoid differentiation.
DDx:
Stains
- Mucin stains +ve.
IHC
- TTF-1 +ve
- Thyroglobulin -ve.
- PAX8 +ve.
- Calcitonin -ve.
Molecular
- Negative for MAML2 rearrangements.[1]
