Gross well-circumscribed mass in renal medulla

Renal medullary carcinoma, abbreviated RMC, is a rare malignant kidney tumour associated with sickle cell trait and a poor prognosis.





  • Well circumscribed.
  • Renal medulla.



  • Variable architecture:
  • Desmoplastic stroma - prominent.
  • Inflammation:
    • Lymphocytes.
    • Neutrophils - margination in vessels.







  • SMARCB1 (INI1) -ve.[8]
  • Vimentin +ve.
  • EMA +ve.
  • CAM5.2 +ve.
  • AE1/AE3 +ve.
