Boston Bowel Preparation Scale, abbreviated BBPS, is a measurement of mucosal visualization, as it pertains to the bowel preparation.[1]
Scoring
The large bowel is divided into three segments:
- Right colon.
- Transverse colon with flexures.
- Left Colon.
Each segment gets a score of 0 to 3.
Scoring of the segments
| Score | Description |
|---|---|
| 0 | Unprepared |
| 1 | Segments not well seen |
| 2 | Minor fragments/obscuring material, but mucosa seen well |
| 3 | Colon segment well seen, no residual fragments/obscuring material |
BBPS score
The three scores are added to get score from zero (horrible) to nine (awesome).
