Syphilis is the infectious disease caused by Treponema pallidum.

General

Gross

Aorta:

  • Wrinkled intimal surface - "tree bark" appearance.[2]

Microscopic

Features:

  • Plasma cells - key feature.[3]
  • Spirochetes - diagnostic.
  • +/-Granulomas[4] - gumma - in the tertiary phase.[5]
