Pneumatosis intestinalis is presence of air in the wall of the intestine.

General

  • Bad prognosis - esp. if diffuse.

Gross

  • Small bubbles in the intestinal wall.

Features:

  • +/-Large submucosal pseudocysts.
  • +/-Vacuolation of the mucosa/fat-like spaces 30-250 micrometres in diameter.[2]
