General

  • Benign adnexal tumour.[2]

Gross

Typical locations:[1]

  • Scalp.
  • Face.
  • Trunk, anterior.

Microscopic

Features:[2]

  • Well-circumscribed dermal lesions with:
    • Back-to-back nests with a whorled appearance.
    • Spaces between cells.
    • Nuclei ovoid and centrally placed in the cell.
      • No nucleolus.
    • Cystic spaces with degenerated cells.

Left Thumb Lesion, Excision:
     - Hidradenoma.

Micro

The sections show an epithelial tumour with squamoid features, mild pleomorphism and whirling, that underlies a benign epidermis. Degenerative changes are present. Rare mitotic figures are seen.

PAS and PASD staining shows PAS-positive diastase-resistant droplets. The tumour is CAM5.2 POSITIVE, S-100 NEGATIVE and SMA NEGATIVE.
