  • Benign.
  • Usually older men.[1]
  • Classically present with bleeding.[1]

Microscopic

Features:

  • Intraepithelial neutrophils - key feature.
  • Basal cell hyperplasia.
  • No infectious agent identified - important.

DDx:

ESOPHAGUS, BIOPSY:
- ACUTE ESOPHAGITIS.
-- NO FUNGAL ORGANISMS IDENTIFIED WITH PAS-D AND GMS STAINING.
- NO COLUMNAR EPITHELIUM IDENTIFIED.
- NEGATIVE FOR DYSPLASIA.
