Traumatic neuroma is a common hand and foot ditzel and grouped with the peripheral nerve sheath tumours.
These may simply be referred to as neuroma, a rather non-specific term that may be used to describe a number of different things.
General
- Consequence of trauma - diagnosis requires history of trauma.
- May mimic a cancer recurrence at the site of a surgery.[1]
Microscopic
- +/-Nerve - that was injured.
- Grouping of disordered nerve fibre bundles in fibrous tissue (collagen) - key feature.
- +/-Myxoid change.
- +/-Axonal swellings (ovoid pink/purple blobs).

- Morton neuroma (foot).
