HELLP syndrome
HELLP syndrome is an uncommon pathology of pregnancy that is diagnosed clinically and is defined by hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes and low platelets.
General
- Diagnosed clinically.
- Pathologically not the same as severe preclampsia.[1]
Definition:
- H = hemolysis.
- EL = elevated liver enzymes.
- LP = low platelets.
Microscopic
Features:[2]
- Thrombotic microangiopathic vasculopathy.
- In essence: severe hypertrophic decidual vasculopathy. (???)
