HELLP syndrome

HELLP syndrome is an uncommon pathology of pregnancy that is diagnosed clinically and is defined by hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes and low platelets.

General

Diagnosed clinically.
Pathologically not the same as severe preclampsia.^[1]

Definition:

H = hemolysis.
EL = elevated liver enzymes.
LP = low platelets.

Microscopic

Features:^[2]

Thrombotic microangiopathic vasculopathy.
- In essence: severe hypertrophic decidual vasculopathy. (???)
