Collagenous gastritis

Collagenous gastritis is an extremely rare pathology of the stomach. It is seen in children and adults.

Associated Dx celiac sprue (in adults), collagenous colitis (in adults)

Prevalence extremely rare
Blood work +/-anemia

General

  • Very rare ~ 30 cases reported in total in 2009.[1][2]

Clinical

  • Dyspepsia or anemia.
  • Chronic.

Adults:[1]

Gross

  • Discolored depression - focal.[2]

Microscopic

Features:

  • Band of eosinophilic material (collagen) expands superficial lamina propria.[2]
    • Band of collagen must be as thick as RBC diameter.
