Sarcomatoid urothelial carcinoma

Sarcomatoid urothelial carcinoma (abbreviated sarcomatoid UC), also sarcomatoid urothelial cell carcinoma (abbreviated sarcomatoid UCC), is a rare variant of urothelial carcinoma.[1]

General

  • Rare.[1]
  • Aggressive >55% dead within one year of presentation.[1]

Microscopic

Features:

  1. Urothelial carcinoma (classic or recognizable variant).
  2. Sarcomatoid differentiation - typically (undifferentiated) spindle cells.

DDx:

  • Sarcoma - esp. those arising from the retroperitoneum.
