Sarcomatoid urothelial carcinoma (abbreviated sarcomatoid UC), also sarcomatoid urothelial cell carcinoma (abbreviated sarcomatoid UCC), is a rare variant of urothelial carcinoma.[1]
General
Gross
Microscopic
Features:
- Urothelial carcinoma (classic or recognizable variant).
- Sarcomatoid differentiation - typically (undifferentiated) spindle cells.
- Approximately have 10% of heterologous elements,[1] e.g. chondrosarcomatous differentiation, osteosarcomatous differentiation.
DDx:
- Sarcoma - esp. those arising from the retroperitoneum.
