Thyroid-like follicular carcinoma of the kidney is a recently described rare kidney tumour.
It is considered an emerging entity by the Vancouver modification of the 2004 WHO classification of renal neoplasia.[1]
General
- Extremely rare - less than 15 cases reported in the literature.[1]
- Large age range (29-83 years old).
Gross
- Solid, brown and well circumscribed.
Microscopic
Features:[1]
- Thyroid follicule-like structures - both microfollicular and/or microfollicular. **Contain dense-appearing eosinophilic material.
- Encapuslated.
- Nuclei round and regular with prominent nucleoli (ISUP nucleolar grade 2 or 3).
DDx:
- Metastatic carcinoma.
IHC

- TTF-1 -ve.
- Thyroglobulin -ve.
- CK7 +ve/-ve.
- PAX8 +ve/-ve.
