The grossing of colorectal cancer depends on the type of resection/location of the tumour.
Types of resections:
- Lower anterior resection for cancer grossing - left sided tumours.
- Right hemicolectomy for cancer grossing - right colon/cecum tumours.
- Abdominoperineal resection grossing - low rectal tumours not amendable to lower anterior resection, surgery includes removal of the anus.
