Splenic hamartoma

Splenic hamartoma, also hamartoma of the spleen, is an uncommon benign lesion of the spleen.

General

  • Benign.
  • Women > men.[1]
  • May cause pain.[2]

Gross

  • Red lesion.
  • Well-circumscribed.

Microscopic

Features:[3]

  • Variable size irregular vascular channels
  • Red pulp-like disorganized stroma
  • +/-Lymphoid follicles.

Features:

  • CD8 +ve endothelial cells.[3]
  • Factor VIII +ve (diffuse intense).[4]
    • Background spleen -ve.
  • CD31 -ve.[4]
    • Background spleen +ve.
