Mucin
Mucin an important thingy in pathology, as it may be associated with cancer, i.e. mucinous carcinoma. It should not be confused with mucous.
Significance
Mucin extravasation
- A phenomenon seen in pedunculated colorectal polyps - that may lead to a misdiagnosis of mucinous carcinoma.[2]
- Classically in the sigmoid colon and descending colon.
DDx:
- Mucinous carcinoma - should do levels to reduce the chance of under-sampling.
