==Citation template generator==
What sources should be used is described in ''[[Libre Pathology:Verifiability]]''.

==Referencing textbooks==
There are a [[:Category:Reference_templates|set of templates for citing textbooks]].

An example of how one is used:

<nowiki>{{Ref Robbins8|123}}</nowiki>

Where:
''Ref Robbins8'' is the name of the template (found at ''[[:Template:Ref PBoD8]]'')
''123'' is the page number in that reference

The result is the following:

{{Ref Robbins8|123}}

===Redirecting reference templates===
One can ''[[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Redirect|redirect]]'' templates like regular pages.

So:
<nowiki>{{Ref PBoD8|123}}</nowiki>
and...
<nowiki>{{Ref Robbins8|123}}</nowiki>

Both generate the same thing:

{{Ref Robbins8|123}}

If you want a template for another textbook feel free to try creating one or leave a message on [[User_talk:Michael|Michael's talk page]].

==Journal references not in PubMed or not yet in PubMed==
These are a pain.  References can be generated by filling the [[:Template:Cite_journal|Cite journal template]] by hand. Detailed documentation for that is [[Wikipedia:Template:Cite_journal|here (on Wikipedia)]].

If you don't want to read the documentation, it basically amounts to fill-out the following:
:<nowiki>{{Cite journal  | last1 =  | first1 = | last2 =  | first2 = | title =  | journal =  | volume = | issue =  | pages =  | month =  | year =  | doi =  | PMID =  | PMC =  | url = }}</nowiki>

While PubMed listings take some time, the [[DOI]]s are usually issued right away (as they are issued by the (journal) publisher).

===Example===
Here is an example for a paper that was e-published and not yet in PubMed (when this section was written):<br>
:<nowiki>{{Cite journal  | last1 = Bettington | first1 = ML. | last2 = Chetty  | first2 = R. | title = Traditional Serrated Adenoma: an update | journal = Human Pathology | volume = 60 | issue =  | pages =  | month =  | year = 2015 | doi = 10.1016/j.humpath.2015.04.002 | PMID =  | PMC =  | url = }}</nowiki>

It would look like this in the reference section:
:{{Cite journal  | last1 = Bettington | first1 = ML. | last2 = Chetty  | first2 = R. | title = Traditional Serrated Adenoma: an update | journal = Human Pathology | volume = 60 | issue =  | pages =  | month =  | year = 2015 | doi = 10.1016/j.humpath.2015.04.002 | PMID =  | PMC =  | url = }}
