An effusion is an abnormal fluid collection.

They can be grouped the following way:[1]

Type Appearance Clinical Image
Serous clear transudate (???) [1][2]
Serosaginous somewhat cloudy serous + blood image
Serofibrinous appearance ??? clinical ??? [2][3]
Purulent opaque/yellow infection (implies presence of PMNs);
