Chronic deciduitis is a chronic inflammation of the decidua. It is a pathology seen in placentas.

It is also known as plasma cell deciduitis.

General

  • Associated with preterm labour.[1]

Microscopic

Features:[1]

  • Plasma cells within the decidua - key feature.
  • Lymphocytes.

Notes:

  • Decidua (maternal tissue - attached to placenta):
    • Well-defined cell borders.
    • Eosinophilic cytoplasm.
    • Central nucleus.
  • Khong et al. suggest it may be called with "abundant" lymphocytes without plasma cells.[2]
