Amnion nodosum is an uncommon benign placental pathology.

General

Gross

Features:[2]

  • Yellow nodules ~ 1-5 mm.
    • Some think they are white.[3]

Microscopic

Features:[2]

  • Stratified squamous epithelium - non-keratinizing or minimal keratin.
  • Amorphous acidophilic (pink) debris.

Note:

  • Normal amnion = simple epithelium.
