Carotid artery

Microscopic

Sections show an endarterectomy specimen containing a large eccentric atherosclerotic plaque with areas of necrosis and calcification. There is evidence of focal ulceration. No mural thrombus is identified.

Diagnosis

CAROTID ARTERY, RIGHT:
- ATHEROSCLEROSIS, COMPLICATED.

Notes

  • Dissection is gross diagnosis (need entry & re-exit point).[1]
