Post-inflammatory pigment alteration

Post-inflammatory pigment alteration, abbreviated PIPA, is benign dermal pigmentation change. It may be either hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation.[1]

Clinical DDx:

Microscopic

Features:

  • Perivascular pigment incontinence.
  • No melanocytic nests.
  • No increase of melanocytes.
