Gallstone pancreatitis is generally a clinical diagnosis. It may be seen in the context of autopsy.

- Aggregates of intraepithelial neutrophils ~ 60% of cases.
- Findings of chronic cholecystitis ~ 30% of cases.
- Findings of acute cholecystitis ~ 10% of cases.
