Cartilage

Cartilage is a type of connective tissue that does not commonly come across the pathologist's desk.

It comes in three flavours:[1]

  1. Hyaline cartilage.
  2. Fibrocartilage.
  3. Elastic cartilage.

Hyaline cartilage

Features:[2]

  • Blue-white extra-cellular matrix -- key feature.
  • Spherical nucleus.
  • Prominent nucleolus.
  • Lacunae.
  • Clear cytoplasm.
