Hemophagocytic syndrome, also known as hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, is a rare condition often associated with viral infections.

Clinical

  • Fever.
  • Splenomegaly.
  • Jaundice.

Associations:

  • HIV/AIDS.
  • EBV.

Microscopic

Features:[1]

  • Macrophages with phagocytosed:
    • Erythrocytes.
    • Leukocytes.
    • Platelets.
