Chronic deciduitis is a chronic inflammation of the decidua. It is a pathology seen in placentas.
It is also known as plasma cell deciduitis.
General
- Associated with preterm labour.[1]
- Uncommon.
Microscopic
Features:[1]
- Plasma cells within the decidua - key feature.
- Lymphocytes.
Notes:
- Decidua (maternal tissue - attached to placenta):
- Well-defined cell borders.
- Eosinophilic cytoplasm.
- Central nucleus.
- Khong et al. suggest it may be called with "abundant" lymphocytes without plasma cells.[2]
