GASTROESOPHAGEAL JUNCTION, BIOPSY: - SQUAMOUS MUCOSA WITH ACUTE INFLAMMATION AND EPITHELIAL ATYPIA, FAVOUR REACTIVE, SEE COMMENT. - VERY SCANT DETACHED COLUMNAR EPITHELIUM WITHOUT APPARENT PATHOLOGY. - NECROINFLAMMATORY DEBRIS COMPATIBLE WITH ULCERATION. - NO APPARENT DYSPLASIA. - NEGATIVE FOR MALIGNANCY. COMMENT: Immunostains for HSV 1 and HSV 2 are negative. Special stains for organisms (GMS, PASF) are negative. Close followup with a re-biopsy is recommended.
