Skeletal muscle is a type of striated muscle under voluntary control.
Muscle biopsies are dealt with in the article neuromuscular pathology.
General
- Common incidental finding on biopsies and resections.
Microscopic
Features:
- Long fibres with striations - key feature.
- Striations may be difficult to appreciate on cytology.
- Peripheral nuclei.
DDx:
- Colloid - especially on cytology.
