It is considered an emerging entity by the Vancouver modification of the 2004 WHO classification of renal neoplasia.[1]
General
- Extremely rare - less than 15 cases reported in the literature.[1]
- Large age range (29-83 years old).
Gross
- Solid, brown and well circumscribed.
Microscopic
Features:[1]
- Thyroid follicule-like structures - both macrofollicular and/or microfollicular.
- Contain dense-appearing eosinophilic material.
- Encapuslated.
- Nuclei round and regular with prominent nucleoli (ISUP nucleolar grade 2 or 3).
DDx:
- Metastatic carcinoma.

IHC
Features:[1]
- TTF-1 -ve.
- Thyroglobulin -ve.
