Microscopic description
The section shows a thick band of histocystes in the superficial dermis, at the dermal-epidermal junction, with scattered reniform nuclei and grooved nuclei, interspersed with lymphocytes and rare eosinophils.
Immunohistochemical staining with CD1a, CD207 (Langerin), S100, and CD68 shows membranous staining of the the histocytes and demonstrates epidermal histocyte clusters. No micro-organisms were identified with specials stains (PAS, Gram).
Final diagnosis
Skin, scalp, biopsy - Langerhans cell histiocytosis.
