Adenocarcinoma of the duodenum is an uncommon epithelial derived malignancy of the duodenum. It is frequently associated with familial adenomatous polyposis.

It is also known as duodenal adenocarcinoma, duodenal carcinoma and carcinoma of the duodenum.

General

Risk factors:

Gross

  • Mass ulcerating or exophytic.

Features:

  • Similar to large bowel adenocarcinomas - see colorectal tumours article.
    • May be similar to gastric adenocarcinomas (gastric-type adenocarcinoma).[1]

DDx:

IHC

  • SMAD4 -ve/+ve.[2]
