A nephrectomy is the removal of some or all of a kidney.

Indications
Most nephrectomies are done for tumours.
Non-tumour nephrectomy indications:
- Non-functional kidney.
- Rejected kidney - post-transplant.
- Uncontrolled hypertension.
- Recurrent infection.
- Make space for a possible transplant, especially in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.
- Relief from mass effect, especially in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.
- Trauma - kidney disrupted.
