Summary

Description
English: High magnification micrograph of a primary central nervous system lymphoma, abbreviated PCNSL, and also known as primary CNS lymphoma. HPS stain.

PCNSL is a large cell lymphoma; it consists of neoplastic lymphoid cells with pale ("open") chromatin, prominent nucleoli and scant basophilic cytoplasm. The cells are approximately ~3-4x the size of a "resting" lymphocyte. Mitoses are typically not hard to find. It has a characteristic perivascular distribution and is classically periventricular.
