Very high magnification micrograph of duodenum with foveolar metaplasia and mucosal Brunner's glands. H&E stain.

Foveolar metaplasia historically has been associated with Helicobacter gastritis; however, strong epidemiologic evidence suggests this is not the case.[1]

Classically, foveolar metaplasia and Brunner's gland hyperplasia is known as chronic duodenitis.
