Description
English: Micrograph showing C-cell hyperplasia in the context of multiple endocrine neoplasia 2. Prophylatic thyroidectomy. H&E stain/CEA IHC/chromogranin IHC.

MEN 2 is subdivided. MEN 2A includes parathyroid adenoma, medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) and pheochromocytoma. MEN 2B includes neuromas/ganglioneuromas, medullary thyroid carcinoma, pheochromocytoma and a marfanoid habitus.

C-cell hyperplasia is considered the precursor to MTC.
