English: Very high magnification micrograph of a bowenoid actinic keratosis, abbreviated BAK. H&E stain.
BAK involves the full thickness of the epidermis. It is differentiated from Bowen's disease (squamous cell carcinoma in situ) by the lack of involvement of the adnexal epithelium and folliclar epithelium.[1] Actinic keratosis (not otherwise specified) has a non-neoplastic superficial epidermis. The section shows atypical basilar and suprabasilar cells with parakeratosis. Scattered atypical cells are present more superficial. Related images
