Renal segmental hypoplasia, also known as Ask-Upmark kidney,[1] is rare benign pathology of the kidney that may cause hypertension.[2]

It is also known as segmental renal atrophy.

Etiology:

  • Acquired versus congenital.[1]

Gross

  • Focal parenchymal loss.

Microscopic

Features:

  • Fibrosis.
  • Lack of renal parenchyma.
