Poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma, abbreviated PDTC, is a distinct type of thyroid carcinoma that is recognized in the 2004 WHO classification of thyroid tumours.[1][2] It does not refer to high grade thyroid tumours.[1]
General
- Prognosis between that of papillary thyroid carcinoma and anaplastic thyroid carcinoma.[3]
Microscopic
Required features - so called Turin criteria:[4]
- Solid, trabecular or insular pattern of growth.
- Absence of nuclear features for (conventional) papillary thyroid carcinoma.
- One of the following:
- Convoluted nuclei.
- >= 3 mitoses/10 HPF.
- Tumour necrosis.
