Paneth cell

The Paneth cell is characteristic of the small intestine. It is also normal in the cecum, ascending colon and transverse colon.

Microscopic

Features:

  • Supranuclear eosinophilic granules.

DDx:

  • Enterochromaffin cells (AKA Kulchitsky cells).
    • Subnuclear eosinophilic granules.
  • Intraepithelial eosinophils.
