Auer rod a microscopic finding typical of some types of acute myeloid leukemia and seen in myelodysplastic syndrome.

It may be referred to as an Auer body.

General

  • Consider to be an indicator of dysplasia or malignancy.[1]
  • Derived from lysosomes.[2]

Microscopic

Features:

  • Needle-like cytoplasmic bodies.
